FUGU Translates Cuisine into an Immersive Spatial Narrative
HAMBURG. GERMANY – Designed by 3deluxe for star chef Tim Raue and TUI Cruises, FUGU rethinks the relationship between dining and space. Located on the cruise ship Mein Schiff Relax, the restaurant operates as a controlled, immersive environment where architecture unfolds over time.
Instead of a fixed interior, the space is defined by a continuous layer of projections and light. Walls, ceiling, and a central sculptural installation act as a unified surface, shifting atmospheres in sync with a five-course menu. The result is a sequence of spatial scenes — from dense urban imagery to abstract, oceanic depths — that accompany the culinary narrative.
»FUGU is not about spectacle alone — it’s about synchronising space, light and gastronomy into a coherent sequence«
DIETER BRELL – CREATIVE DIRECTOR 3DELUXE
The concept treats the restaurant as a time-based medium. Guests remain seated while the environment changes around them, turning perception itself into part of the experience. Digital content is not applied decoration but integrated into the spatial logic, calibrated to intensify or quiet moments throughout the meal.
Developed within the closed system of a cruise ship, FUGU demonstrates how hospitality spaces can move beyond static design toward choreographed environments — without losing focus on cuisine.
