Airlift Pavillon by 3deluxe

WIESBADEN. GERMANY – On behalf of the city of Wiesbaden, is designing and planning an iconic pavilion as the centerpiece of a new urban square dedicated to the historic event of the Berlin Airlift.

The airlift of the Western Allies, which was set up in 1948 to supply Western Berlin, was organized from Wiesbaden at the time. This humanitarian effort, which lasted over a year, should remain firmly anchored in the memory of the city in the future.

The newly created square with the recently inaugurated Airlift memorial by sculptor Petra Goldmann is located on one of the main access roads to Wiesbaden. It forms the heart of the new Kaiserhof district, which was developed by SEG Stadtentwicklungsgesellschaft Wiesbaden mbH. Embedded in a historic villa quarter, the district offers over 100 subsidized apartments of high-quality construction.

3DELUXE was asked to design a pavilion that would serve as an attractive new urban meeting place. It includes a restaurant and bar and its design language picks up on the theme of the airlift, making it come alive in an associative way. 

The architects at 3DELUXE designed the roof of the planned pavilion as an abstract, ascending gesture reminiscent of a flying object taking off, intended to reflect the positive, determined spirit of the Airlift in architectural terms.

A STRIKING LANGUAGE OF FORMS FOR A NEW URBAN MEETING PLACE

 The dynamic, three-dimensional pavilion roof made of two-dimensionally shaped aluminum slats is reminiscent of the wings of the historic “raisin bombers” in terms of its shape and material. In the future, it will house an inviting restaurant and serve as the lively center of the new “Kaiserhof” district.

All around the pavilion, seating steps and outdoor seating, as well as an inviting interior with an open show kitchen, invite you to linger, enjoy and relax in a communicative atmosphere throughout the day. The result is a new, attractive meeting place for the city's residents! Completion is planned for early 2026.
