3deluxe Proposes New Future for Vacant Galeria Kaufhof in Wiesbaden
WIESBADEN, GERMANY — With the closure of large-scale retail formats, many inner cities are facing a growing number of vacant department stores. In Wiesbaden, the former Galeria Kaufhof building on Kirchgasse occupies a prominent position within the pedestrian zone—yet currently lacks a viable long-term use.
3deluxe has developed a design study that explores how the existing structure can be transformed into a resilient and adaptable urban building. Rather than demolition and replacement, the proposal focuses on reusing the existing fabric and introducing a hybrid mix of programmes
»The question of how cities can prepare for structural change at an early stage is of high societal relevance.«
